The Entertainment Society of Goa seems to be set for another showdown with the Directorate of Film Festival over the organisation of the forthcoming International Film Festival of India.
The ESG has expressed displeasure over Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting move to take over majority of the role in hosting IFFI.
Sources in the ESG told Herald that the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the IFFI, to be held in November-December, is unacceptable to the ESG.
“The ESG governing council met today and discussed the draft sent by Directorate of Film Festival (DFF), which in its current form is unacceptable to ESG,” sources informed adding “the MoU intends to take away majority of role from ESG.”
Sources further informed that according to the MoU most of the rights will go to DFF.
Sources stated that DFF has recommended that the events like red carpet to various artists be handled by them, which was initially a mandate of ESG.
“The responsibility of ESG will be restricted to only providing logistic support, which is not acceptable to us,” sources said.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat also resolved to meet Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni, and discuss the issue.
“The delegation would be led by the chief minister,” a member said.
Speaking to reporters, Kamat admitted that there were some issues unacceptable to ESG in the draft MoU sent by DFF.
“The members suggested various things which would be put across to the DFF,” the chief minister said.
