PANJIM: Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim, and Carmel Higher Secondary School, Nuvem, emerged champions in the first Indian School Basketball League (ISBL), organised by Basketball Federation of India and Goa Basketball Association in collaboration with IMG|Reliance, at Fr Agnel Technical Education complex basketball court, at Verna, recently.
In all, 12 schools in the boys section and seven in the girls section participated in the league held from December 8 to 12.
In the boys final, Don Bosco HSS, Panjim were clearly the favourites and led from the start against Fr Agnel, Verna.
In the first quarter itself Don Bosco took a whopping 19 point lead and never looked back from there to finish winners 56-24.
In the girls final, Carmel Higher Secondary, Nuvem locked horns with Fatima Convent HS, Margao and sprung back in contention in the third quarter after being down by seven points at half time.
Franzila Rodrigues came into her own in the last two quarters with her accurate long-range shooting to turn the tide in Carmel’s favour and earn her team the first title of ISBL with a 20 point lead 44-24.
In the girls section, Fr Agnel Verna, won the third place while in the boys section, Loyola High School, Margao got the better of St Xavier HSS, Mapusa to win the third place.
Franzilla Rodrigues was declared the Most valuable player while Rachel Raposo won the Best defender award and Amisha Lotlikar was adjudged the Rising Star of the ISBL in the girls section.
In the boys’ ISBL, Mark Fernandes of Fr Agnel was declared Most valuable player and Daniel Vaz of Don Bosco HSS was adjudged the Best defender. Don Bosco’s Shaun Aranjo was declared the Rising Star.
