“Those who speak against these projects are the ones who don’t have enough information about it. Media usually takes their byte and projects it as opposition. There is no specific reason for opposition,” Parsekar said referring to the proposed IIT campus on Loliem’s Bhagwati plateau.
“Similar opposition was there for the NIT project in Cuncolim village where a
section didn’t want the campus to come up,” the chief minister added. “It is time for teachers to speak in favour of such educational projects. You all should talk to media persons and explain to them the importance of projects like IIT, NIIT, how it will be a boon for the educational sector. You should be vocal on such issues,” Parsekar said.
Taking a dig at NGOs, the Chief Minister said various development projects are affected due to unnecessary interference of NGOs who claim to be saviours or protectors of the environment. He was speaking on the sidelines of an event to release infrastructure grants to colleges under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
Under the scheme, the government disbursed Rs 10.98 crore to 19 colleges, including Goa University, which was given grants of Rs 54.85 lakh.
The colleges given grants of Rs 5.48 lakh include St Xavier’s College Mapusa, Rosary College Navelim, Dhempe College Miramar, Goa College of Engineering Ponda, Dnyanprasarak Mandal College Mapusa, SS Dempo College Altinho, SV Sridoro Caculo College Mapusa, Cuncolim Education Society’s College.
Those who were awarded Rs one crore infrastructural support include Parvatibai Chowgule College Margao, Murgaon Education Society College, VVM Shree Damodar College Margao, PES Ravi Naik College Ponda, Mallikarjun College Canacona, Narayan Zantye College Bicholim, Government College Pernem, GVM GGPR College Ponda, Carmel College Salcete and Fr Agnel College Pilar.
