In the seven-member panchayat, the post of sarpanch had fallen vacant after four panchas had moved a no-confidence motion against Poonam Pethkar. As the post of sarpanch in Kudnem Panchayat is reserved for women, Pathkar once again filed her nomination. She was supported by Panchas, Mangaldas Naik and Pramila Ghadi, the other women panchas in the panchayat.
When the election was held on Monday, RO Suryajirao Rane declared Pathkar elected unopposed as sarpanch.
However, within hours of declaring the new sarpanch, the four other panchas, who had earlier moved a no-confidence motion, swiftly moved a no-confidence motion against her at 3 pm.
