Our PM has initiated a great cleanliness program. Kudos to him. But cleaning a couple of square meters for 5-10 minutes will not clean the whole of India. And did they dispose the garbage properly, or was it dumped in a corner like any other place we see in Goa?
Instead of sending our ministers to lure tourists to our state, they should instead be sent to study and purchase waste treatment machinery. Countries like Singapore, Dubai, Spain, USA, etc. are highly rated for being clean. These countries follow strict laws to ensure that there is no filthiness.
In India we are way behind in issuing fines to offenders who make this mess, be it on beaches, public places, etc. there is lot of ground work to be done first before we invite foreign tourists. As citizens we must also keep our state, houses and surroundings clean.
Installing garbage bins at various locations, displaying rules and regulations and the consequences for not obeying the same should be implicated soon. In India we have laws and if we do follow these laws then we would definitely see some discipline among the public and tourists in terms of cleanliness. Let us all strive to keep our beautiful Goa clean and green.
