MARGAO: The Seraulim gram sabha on Sunday passed a resolution that MLAs should take treatment only at Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim. But if they go abroad they should bear their own cost.
The gram sabha started off with a presentation by Rajat Chitari of Goa Waste Management Corporation. People have been throwing their garbage along the isolated roads and the Panachyat has had little success in stopping such violations.
Rajat urged the villagers to identify land for stacking and managing dry waste.
Sarpanch Kevin D’Souza informed the villagers that the panchayat would bring in laws that can ban commercial establishment for one year, if they don’t dispose their garbage according to the Panchayat norms.
The gram sabha members informed that even the Railways is the source of garbage as they have found bags of chapattis and other garbage on the tracks.
Another villager raised the issues of baby diapers being thrown along the road. Other villagers demanded ban on plastic cups.
The gram sabha resolved that the panchayat should write to the Margao Municipality and Pollution Control Board to ban the sale of plastic.
Next, the gram sabha approved the proposal to hire a weed-cutter for clearing weeds in the village. They also constituted a child committee for the village.
