PONDA: Two days after the incident, the Ponda Police arrested alleged accused Omkar Dhananjay Kavlekar (25) from Varbhat-Kavlem for assaulting and causing injuries to the girl after she refused to accept lift offered by him on his bike.
The incident had occurred on Thursday evening at 3 pm when the girl was waiting for bus at Kapileshwarim bus stop. The injured girl is undergoing treatment.
The parents had filed a complaint. A case has been registered against the accused for outraging modesty of woman and causing injury under Section 354 and 323 of Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, women along with the villagers on Saturday protested at Ponda Police Station and demand for strict legal action and thorough probe for providing justice to their daughter so that no repeat offence takes place.
Local panch Drupada Pandari Naik and other women condemned the incident that took place in their residential area.
They said, “The police should see that such incident should not repeat in future in their area and there should not be any revenge attempt by the accused boy after released on bail. No daughter should be harassed or no revenge attempt or torture would be tolerated from the accused.”
The local women said that they know that the police arrested the accused but we need strict inquiry and action and thorough probe into bike rider assaulting the girl or else the local women would teach lesson to the accused.
