The post of sarpanch had fallen vacant, after the then sarpanch Santosh Malik tendered his resignation after four and half years of tenure.
A special meeting was called to elect the new sarpanch at the panchayat office and since only one application for the post of sarpanch was submitted, Gawas was declared unopposed as the new sarpanch by the presiding officer.
