Every year, children from all across Goa are encouraged to participate in the
Children’s Tiatr Competition. They have to portray their characters on stage
and sing the essential solos, duets, trios and quartets, interspersed with the
acts. However, since it’s a competition, every performance is marked and these
children are taken quiet seriously in the field of tiatr.
This year marks the eighth edition of the
Children’s Tiatr Competition organised by Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) and it has
helped create awareness about the importance of child artistes on the Konkani
stage. “The competition is open to children up to the age of 16 years and it’s
main aim is to involve children in the production and staging of tiatrs. The
tiatrs don’t have to be directed by children but they are a part of the other
important elements onstage and backstage. The stories have to written keeping
children in mind and has to include more than eight songs,” says Cezar D’Mello,
Member Secretary of TAG.

This year, the 8th Children’s Tiatr
Competition will be held from December 6 to 20, 2017 at Pai Tiatrist
Auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao daily at 3:30pm. Nine children’s groups will
be participating in this competition, which is not ticketed and open to all.
The opening tiatr ‘Hem Oxem Koxem?’,
written and directed by Pio Esteves, will be staged on December 6. ‘Mhojea
Mamachea Ganvant’, written and directed by Marcos Gonsalves will be staged on
December 7, ‘Ami Jiklim’, written and directed by Francisco X Pereira, will be
staged on December 11, ‘Dhol Baye Dhol’, written and directed by Michael
Gracias, will be staged on December 13 and ‘Kirnnam’, written by William
Fernandes and director Presley Fernandes, will be staged on December 15.
‘Award’, written and directed by Antonet De Sousa, will be performed by the Our
Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula dramatic troupe on December 16,
‘Kristacho Mog, Amkam Uzvadd’, written and directed by Milagres Carneiro, will
be staged on December 17, ‘Uzvadd’, written by Oswin D’Souza and directed by
Rajesh Kundaikar, will be performed by Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High
School, Cortalim dramatic troupe on December 18. The concluding tiatr will be
‘Rompi’, written by Mario S Fernandes and directed by Roque Fernandes, which
will be staged on December 20.
“TAG regularly organises workshops for children and college
students and once they are above the age of 16 years, they participant in the
Kala Academy Tiatr Competitions. Many children are now acting and singing in
professional commercial tiatrs as well. This stage gives them the confidence to
perform better in the future,” says Cezar.
The
