MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy  edged past Dempo Sports Club 2-1 in Goa Football Association’s (GFA) Goa Professional League football match, at Duler stadium, here, on Wednesday. The winners led 1-0 at half time.
Parryson Rebello and Alber Gonsalves scored for the academy boys while Uttam Rai pulled a goal back for The Golden Eagles.
After nine matches, Sesa have 11 points while Dempo remain with 14 points.
The league resumed after a few days break and the GFA failed to alert the media about the fixture. Surprisingly, the encounter was scheduled on the auspicious Diwali festival day and hardly attracted any spectators.
Coming to the match, the teams were all pumped up and played to the final whistle in search of victory.
They took time to settle down and eventually it was Sesa who surged ahead at the stroke of the half hour mark after Parryson Rebello unleashed a venomous strike from 30-yards out that crashed into the rival nylons.
Changing over, Sesa continued in the same rhythm. In the 77th minute, they worked out a set piece to double their advantage as Girish Naik’s dangerous free-kick sailed over the rival defence and was powerfully headed by Alber past Dempo keeper.
Dempo fought back and two minutes later managed to reduce the margin through Uttam’s solo effort.
Dempo tried hard to level terms but Sesa’s rock-solid defence of  Lenstan Afonso, George, Ponif, Myran left them frustrated.
