CALANGUTE: Cleophas Fernandes, 45, a former member of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat, was arrested by Anjuna police for allegedly assaulting the staff members of a Vagator nightclub on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at around 5pm on Friday when Fernandes allegedly went to the staff room of the Vagator nightclub and abused the staff members. He also allegedly assaulted five staff members identified as Ritu Raj Mandal from Bihar, Govind Magar, Amar Sharma, both from Maharashtra, Steve, from Manipur and Vivek Kumar from Jharkhand, using kicks, punches, and a wooden stick, resulting in injuries to all five staff members. They were later treated at the Candolim primary health centre.
According to police, the accused has a history of criminal behaviour and several cases are registered against him.
