Desh looks like a guy who likes to enjoy life. He looks like a guy who would like to explore the various nooks and crannies this adventure called life throws up. Not for him the lifting of weights in the morning to set a tone for the day. He believes in keeping fit and he likes to do it by using his treadmill for half an hour. This is followed by his great passion. He loves preparing tea in the morning and sipping it while contemplating the possibilities of the day ahead. This is accompanied in the background by devotional music. He then proceeds to work on his laptop possibly way before the sun rises as he checks the overnight position of stocks and shares. Breakfast follows and then he is out for the day.
For someone who travels around the State a lot his likes are pretty obvious. He loves his non vegetarian food. He is vegetarian on Monday though from his tone it suggested he did it as a duty to the almighty and nothing else. Desh loves his fish curry rice. His system needs it everyday. Any fish will do but he needs it everyday. This mean wherever he is in the world he will sniff out a Goan restaurant and have his staple diet. In Dubai he discovered a Goan restaurant and had his fill. Apart from fish he loves his chicken, mutton, like he puts it, he will eat anything. As someone who was born a year after the Portuguese left, he says he is a man of a certain age. He went hunting with his father in his childhood. Brings back great memories for him. Wild boar was hunted with great passion. These days when he goes out to eat with his family, he likes to go to Florentine for the caffreal. He visits the restaurant once every three months. Another favourite is Mainland China.
Everyman and woman has something they love deeply. He has a couple. One is his passion for long drives. There is nothing like slipping into the drivers seat in his Mercedez Benz and zipping down to Pune along with his wife. He learnt driving while a very young man and he enjoys the mechanics of the act as well as the pleasure of going towards a destination. Another love is music and more specifically ghazals. Think of a obscure composition by a ghazal singer, Desh will have it. For him, it is the long drive accompanied by Talat Aziz or Jagjit Singh singing mellifluously. He does not read books and admits to being a poor reader. It is, he says, not his cup of tea.
With regards to holidays taken with the family, he admits to being a very poor tourist. He has visited Dubai and Singapore and is not usually very keen on visiting the hot spots in that place. He prefers to keep to himself.
Asked what his plans were in the next five years, he preferred calm waters. As someone who started working at a very young age he would like to pull back from his public engagements. He intends to give up his post as the Goa Head of Credai shortly believing it is time someone much younger took charge. He will however continue to focus on his business and help his son in his business too. A simple man with very clear mind, he lives his life his way. Perhaps in that lies the secret to happiness.
