MAPUSA: Some of the important resolutions such as auctioning the newly built shops at Mapusa market to increase municipality revenue and reserving two shops for destitute and specially-abled were passed during the heated Mapusa Municipal Council’s meeting held on Thursday.
All the councillors backed the above resolutions.

Former deputy chairperson Chandrashekhar Benkar and Shashank Narvekar were absent for the meeting. Most of the councillors complained about lack of municipal staff and cited it as the reason behind delay in work.
Councillor of Ward No. 9 Kyle Braganza complained to Chairperson Priya Mishal that since January the sanitation workers have not come to her ward which has resulted in the accumulation of garbage.
Mishal responded saying the problem is common in all the wards and soon 15 workers will be recruited on contract basis. The situation became tense when Braganza asked if it takes months to recruit the workers as this reason has been given for the last six months.
Resolution to renew the contracts of the office staff was also tabled. Councillors exchanged some heated arguments after Councillor Sudhir Kandolkar suggested increasing the salaries of the workers working on contract basis.
