PANJIM: Giving a new direction to the dilapidated educational sector,
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced major changes starting with an app for registration of complaints of the school infrastructure.
The chief minister also said the Laptop Scheme for the Std XI students will also be reviewed. Replying on the cut motions on education, chief minister said that the state was investing heavily in the education sector.
“Almost three per cent of the state GSDP is being invested into the education sector,” he said.
On complaints from the opposition benches about the bad toilets and other leaking roofs etc, chief minister said his department is seized of the matter.
“The department will soon launch an app through which the teacher can directly register a complaint about the toilets or any other issues in school and which will be attended to within 48 hours,” he said.
About the Laptop Scheme, the chief ministers said the laptop which were given to the students are being sold on popular sales websites.
“We have now decided to revamp the scheme. It is not an announcement but we will discuss and review,” Parrikar stated.
He said, that the students may henceforth not own the laptops but instead school computer labs will be improved.
“We will increase the school lab infrastructure instead,” he said that the laptops are being misused by students.
The chief minister said that in the last three years the State has spent around Rs 97 cr on laptops scheme.
On the shortage of teachers in primary school’s chief minister said that in the next few days the recruitment for 182 teachers in various primary schools will begin.
Govt School results improving
Education Minister Manohar Parrikar said the education at the 20,000 plus government school is improving every year.
“Despite the number of schools decreasing, the number of students is increasing and the results have been improving,” he said.
He said in the SSCE examinations 22 schools achieved 100 percent results while 26 schools achieved 90+ percentage.
“Only 4 schools got per centage 50 p.c and below,” he said adding the government schools are doing on par or better than the grant in aid schools.
“Hence, I feel, nobody should worry about closure of government school,” he said.
MOI issue
Parrikar said that the Medium of Instruction issue in now non-existent as there is no question of granting permission to any new English schools.
“As per our stand, no grants will be given to new schools. So the MOI issue does not exist,” he said.
Further the chief minister said that the neighbourhood school concept will be made compulsory.
