NSUI chief complains of threat calls

National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa Unit president Sunil Khawtankar, who launched a signature campaign demanding CBI probe into the police-drug cartel nexus probe received threatening calls from an anonymous caller on Tuesday late evening.
A police complaint has been filed with the Panjim town police station. “I received a call from an unknown number, which I first ignored as I was in a meeting at Altinho. The same number flashed again on my phone and this time when I answered, the caller abused me and threatened of dire consequences,” Khawtankar told Herald after filing a police complaint.
The anonymous caller had called the NSUI chief from +919975587344 number at 9:46pm. “He (the anonymous caller) said you are doing too much and I will show you,” the complainant said in his complaint letter. Police sources say that the number is of a coin operated telephone box.
No police officials were however available for comments till late night.
It may be recalled that Khawtankar was attacked by two unknown assailants when he was on his way to Bicholim to meet the student leaders as part of anti-drug signature campaign on July 23 evening. The motorcycle bound assailants threw a boulder at his car windshield and it smashed into Khawtankar’s face as he was driving the car. A police complaint was registered, but, the assailants are neither identified nor traced so far.
The youth earlier also met All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi in Delhi seeking his intervention to hand over the case from Goa police to CBI.
