Construction debris and mud has been dumped overnight illegally in the fields at Sangolda to construct a road illegally for the benefit of the real estate. Two government servants are also allegedly involved in the illegality.
There was a traditional walking path as an access to cross the fields and reach the other side of the fields. However, some builders have bought the land on the other side of the fields and have now begun to construct an illegal road. They have dumped mud and debris over the walking path and creating a new road illegally.

As it is Sangolda witnesses flooding during the monsoon and with the construction of this illegal road, the fields will be completely inundated. The road will spell a doom as it will destroy the fields. Sangolda is amongst the few villages that have been continuing farming and growing paddy, but with this construction, the fields will no more be cultivable and farmers will have to suffer losses.
In the past, the panchayat has already permitted carpentry workshops, welding workshops, etc along the fields. There are also chicken and mutton shops, grocery stores adjacent to the fields. Toilets have also been constructed illegally in the fields.
The panchayat and Electricity Department have given NOCs for pump houses that are now converted into workshops.
Farming activities are taking a hit as the authorities concerned are turning a Nelson’s eye on the issues. It is high time that the authorities wake up from their slumber and address the problems. Sangolda’s green lands are on the verge of destruction and the authorities will be solely responsible for the mess that is being created by a few individuals.
