Acting principal killed in bus collision at Ponda

PONDA: The 38-year-old acting principal of Vivekanand Higher Secondary School, Ponda was killed, while 15 passengers were injured when a bus and a two-wheeler collided with each other along the highway at Konem-Farmagudi, Ponda on Friday. According to Ponda Police, the accident occurred at about 2.30 pm when the driver of the bus, which was proceeding towards Ponda, lost control of the vehicle.

According to Ponda Police, the accident occurred at about 2.30 pm when the driver of the bus, which was proceeding towards Ponda, lost control of the vehicle.
Acting Principal, Vivek Nabar of Guleli-Sattari, who was proceeding on his two-wheeler in the opposite direction, was crushed to death, while the bus overturned, injuring about 15 passengers.
While eight passengers were discharged after first aid, five passengers are kept under observation at Ponda Sub District Hospital. Two passengers, Seema Naik (30) from Sanvordem and Akshay Ramnathkar (17) from Curti-Ponda were shifted to the GMC Hospital in Bambolim for further treatment, police said.
Ponda Police later arrested the bus driver Ankush Gaonkar in this connection.
The mishap led to a disruption of traffic along the national highway for about an hour and traffic movement was restored only after the police managed to clear the ill-fated vehicles from the accident site.
Ponda DySP Dhinraj Govekar and Traffic PI Nilesh Dhaigodkar also visited the site to take stock of the situation.
