PANJIM: The insurance companies have extended the time for renewal of insurance policies of public transport buses, which were due for renewal during COVID-19 lockdown.
The All Goa private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA) General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar said that after strenuous efforts the insurance companies have now agreed to renew the validity of insurance policies of public vehicles, which were off the road during lockdown.

Tamhankar said during that period, many private buses were off the road and the owners had requested the insurance companies to extend the renewal of policies as they were finding it difficult to pay the premium amount.
He said that in order to mitigate the hardship faced by private bus owners, the Association wrote to the State’s premier financial institution Economic Development Corporation (EDC) with a request to release some funds to make the premium payment assuring that they will pay back the money in installments. But it fell on deaf ears of EDC, he said.
According to Tamhankar, many private buses are still off the road as the owners are unable to pay premium amount ranging from Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 on time due to prevailing COVID-19 situation.
He has now appealed to all public vehicle owners to get their insurance policies renewed and to contact them in case of any difficulty.
