Congress’ frontal students union has demanded immediate arrest of the Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar for his alleged involvement in abetting drug trade during his tenure as chief minister.
National Students Union of India (NSUI), Goa Unit president Sunil Kawthankar in a letter to Goa Governor S S Sidhu has referred to recent media statement by Home Minister Ravi Naik that claimed Parrikar supported drug lobbies during his tenure.
“Parrikar should be arrested for abetment of crime,” he said adding that he fears Parrikar may destroy or bargain it for political or any other gains.
NSUI has also demanded the Governor that assets of Director General of Police (DGP) Bhimsen Bassi should be investigated.
“…As the chief of Police Department his role has been suspicious as he has maintained silence and has refrained to act on the involvements of Senior Police officer like Veenu Bansal even after his involvement with the drug trade came to light, It seems all the authorities entrusted to protect us are sailing in the same boat and are mutually satisfying each other’s requirements to survive,” the letter reads.
Naik at a press briefing last Saturday had claimed that “drug peddlers were freely doing business in the coastal belts with blessings of Parrikar and his MLAs.”
The home minister also named one Vaigankar from Arambol, who he said is involved in many drug cases was protected and supported by BJP leaders.
“Even Parrikar conducted meetings at his residence and projected him (Vaigankar) as office bearer of a BJP local committee,” Naik had said.
However, on repeated questioning, he failed to give the first name of Vaigankar.
