If Shivaji had freed Goa would not suffer colonial atrocities: CM

Announces reconstruction and renovation of the existing Farmagudi Fort as well Shivaji statue

PONDA:  Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Shivaji made every effort to free Goa from the Portuguese rule and if his efforts were successful at that time then Goa would have been free from the Portuguese rule and we would not have had to suffer atrocities under colonial Portuguese rule for centuries.He also praised him as an ideal Bahujan king.

Sawant while speaking at the Shivjayanti celebration today at Farmagudi Fort also said that Shivaji had almost conquered and taken control of Bicholim, Sattari, Pernem, Bardez, Antruz Mahal (Ponda) talukas and Betul Fort and was about to free Goa but he had to surrender to the Portuguese and leave Goa.

Speaking further the Chief Minister said Shivaji is still remembered after centuries because of his good deeds to the society. He was in a true sense the king of the drowntrodden and worked for their welfare hence today the youth should imbibe the ideals of Shivaji in themselves and contribute towards society.

The chief minister also announced the reconstruction and renovation of the existing Farmagudi Fort as well Shivaji statue into a larger size within one year.

Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, PMC Chairperson Venktesh Naik, Information and Publicity secretary Sanjaykumar, Information Director Megna Shetgaonkar, Padmakar Gore were also present on the occasion.

In the evening the thousands of youth and  locals from the Taluka took out a huge rally with Rathyatra of the Shivaji statue.
