The suspension order issued by party president John Fernandes states that the PCC president vested with the power under the Congress constitution, places Gaonkar under suspension till further orders.
and disciplinary proceedings are initiated against him with appropriate show cause notice.
Gaonkar is known as one of the strong supporter of Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane.
Fernandes said that Gaonkar took a decision at a block committee meeting of preventing certain Congress leaders from entering Poriem constituency. However, the local Congress MLA Rane, who was present at the meeting, persuaded him not to do so, despite that he went on making anti-party statements.
Based on the same, GPCC had on July 26 issued a show cause notice to Gaonkar seeking explanation from him on the matter. However, he did not turn up. “This act will encourage other Congressmen to commit such acts of indiscipline, which is not good for the image of Congress party,” Fernandes said.
The party has already suspended South Goa District Committee president Subhash Faldesai and former power minister Aleixo Sequeira for anti-party activities.
Congress had on Monday announced to dissolve and reconstitute all its 40 block committees in constituencies along with both North and South Goa district committees by September-end.
