MERCES: Ramesh Palkar scored a fine second-half brace to help Vasco Veterans to a deserving 2-0 win against Cavelossim Veterans and advance to the semi-finals of the Fifth Pogo Boys 50+ Veterans Cup at the Merces Church Ground, on Friday.
The opening half was evenly poised with both teams trying their best to take the lead, but to no avail.

Heading into the second half tied goalless, it was Palkar who advanced upfront, and a snap strike from him on the half-hour mark from the edge of the box gave Cavelossim goalkeeper Manoj Kesarkar no chance at all.
Goaded by the goal, Vasco Veterans continued pressing and got a second goal ten minutes later from a similar long ranger from Palkar to ensure a hard-fought victory and advance to the last four stages of the competition.
In Saturday’s quarter-final, Verna Veterans will be looking to make their long trip count as they face home side Merces Veterans to decide Vasco Veterans’ next opponents.
