MARGAO: Residents putting up in a housing colony behind Hospicio have demanded a stop to the disposal of bio-medical waste in pits in the hospital premises ~ just meters away from the place of residence.
In a representation to the Director of Health Services, the residents pointed out that it is a pathetic sight when hospital servants using medical masks come on the public road from the rear entrance, carrying blue-coloured plastic bags every morning and dump the same in the pit.
“The Hospicio authorities have put the residents staying close by at high risk. Besides, patients attending the OPD and office goers of PWD located just 50 meters from the pit also face health risks,” asserted a resident Francis Fernandes.
The residents have urged the Health Director to order the Hospicio authorities to immediately stop the practice. “The pit in question is approximately 2 m x 2m and 3m deep and is situated close to the OPD and close to the public road leading to the government rest house,” they added.
