VASCO: Calling upon the authorities to consider the plight of the residents, Mormugao councillor Lavina D’Souza, who represents Khariwado, on Saturday demanded that part of her ward be removed from the containment zone as no new COVID cases have been detected.
“Non-Mon, Bandhar only 3 COVID cases were detected and Dhempebhaat almost 50 cases. All of them were admitted to the hospital, recovered and returned home, then why is there a need to have a containment zone here,” Lavina asked.

She said, “People are facing lots of problems and are asking me regularly when they will be freed from containment zone.”
She also cited that the fishing activities are going to start from August and entire Khariwado is primarily dependent on fishing business. Since last year the fishing community is in losses and therefore the Deputy collector should give it a thought to remove the area from the containment zone.
D’Souza urged for keeping the area sealed with restricted entry so that at least people who are working or during emergency could move “.
A resident said the senior citizens are facing several problems and he is helping them out.
He said, “There is only a lone policeman stationed at the barricade and in fact there should have been some people assigned to take and deliver essentials, which is not happening in Khariwado.”
“In case of emergency situations we need someone whom we can contact and he can attend to us. Authorities must take note of this issue.” he added.
A senior citizen from Khariwado expressed her dismay over keeping their area under containment for several days.
She complained that the youth cannot go to work or to buy some goods. The woman urged the authorities to free Khariwado from the containment zone.
