PANJIM: Congress has decided to approach the Election Commission of India over the ‘casual attitude’ of the polling staff handling the electronic voting machines after the voting process ended on April 23.
Herald had reported that EVMs from many booths in the North and South Lok Sabha constituencies had not reached the designated strong rooms even 20 hours after polling was over.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president and North Goa candidate Girish Chodankar said that there was no power supply in Mapusa for two hours when the EVMs were brought to the taluka headquarters collection centre.
“It has been a casual approach from the polling staff. There are photographs in the media clearly telling you the photographer had access to the machines and no personnel around the machines in a bus. We will be complaining against the casual approach of the polling staff,” he stated.
He added that the party’s representative had to remain present throughout the night until the next day, Wednesday, April 24, morning to ensure that the machines were safe. He reiterated that there was no serious effort and there was instead a display of casual attitude during the transportation of the EVMs to the strong rooms after the polling process on April 23.
