Due to torrential rains in Panjim and surrounding areas, people, specially poor people, are greatly affected here as seen in the photograph.
This residence at Caranzalem opposite Kamat Supercentre had to bear the brunt of inundation as the water flowed into this dwelling since the road has been asphalted in layers and this house now is at a lower level than the road.
This house owner had to hire a water pump, to pump out the accumulated water, which before used to drain into the surrounding field, near which a multi-storeyed building, has come up and thus there is no way out for the rain water to drain.
The concerned authorities (CCP, PWD and TCP) should do a thorough study before issuing construction licences for high rise buildings, especially in low lying areas.
A number of multi-storeyed buildings have come up in Caranzalem and now the original dwellers, who are mostly poor people who have lived there for years, and don’t have godfathers to help them, have to suffer miserably.
