PANJIM: The Government of Goa in association with Goa Science Centre and Planetarium and Goa State Biodiversity Board will celebrate World Environment Day 2017 from June 5 to 12, 2017 at the Goa Science Centre and Planetarium, Miramar.
This year’s theme “Connecting People to Nature” lays special emphasis on involving student’s, housewives and the public to participate in this environment day celebration.
Several workshops will be held during the course of the celebrations.
A workshop on kitchen gardening will be organized on June 5 from 10 am to 4 pm. The workshop will focus on natural and organic practices for growing monsoon vegetables. The workshop will be held in two sessions; the first session will be from 10 am to 1 pm and will be a theoretical session comprising a power point presentation and demonstration. The second session will be from 2 pm to 4 pm and will be practical oriented.
A five-day bamboo handicraft workshop will be organized from June 6 – 10, 2017 from 3 pm to 5 pm. During the workshop participants will be exposed to the technique of making various handicrafts using bamboo. The workshop is open to all and materials required at the workshop will be provided.
The workshop on nature photography will be organized in two sessions. The first session will be held on June 7 from 10 am to 1 pm. This session will be a theoretical session. The second session will be held on June 8 from 7 am to 10 am. The participants will be taken to Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Chorao. The participants must carry with them a DSLR camera.
A workshop on solid waste management will be organised on June 9 from, 10 am to 4 pm. The workshop will be held in two sessions. The first session will be from 10 am to 1 pm and will be a theoretical session. The second session will be from 2 pm to 4 pm and the participants will be taken on a visit to the Solid Waste Management Plant at Saligao.
