PANJIM: The Congress lodged a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday against two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers ~Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Art & Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar~ and unnamed local BJP leaders for their alleged links in the drug trade.
Addressing the press after filing the complaint, Congress spokesman Sudip Tamhankar said an inquiry against them is a must and demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar be questioned about his order of closing down a local business during his previous tenure.
Tamhankar substantiated his allegations based on complaints of three locals who had complained to the then Congress government about the alleged nexus of BJP leaders with the drug mafia.
“…involvement of the politicians in the ongoing police-drug mafia nexus (should) be investigated by summoning and interrogating the politicians, to expose the underlying police-drug mafia-politician nexus since it is a known fact that often the drug trade has the blessings of the local political leaders apart from the police and there is also need to check disproportionate assets of the above mentioned politicians,” the complaint letter reads.
Tamhankar also quoted the statement made by Vagator resident Roy Fernandes, who during a CBI interrogation, had stated that Parrikar shut down his business of organizing beach parties but it restarted with the help of Mandrekar.
This is the prime reason Tamhankar said he was demanding that Parrikar should also be questioned on his order. He as alleged that BJP leaders would hold meetings in the house of people involved in the drug trade.
