Keep mamlatdars out of sluice gates auctioning: Oppn

The Opposition on Friday demanded that mamlatdars should not have any say in auctioning of sluice gates on grounds of corruption. “There is huge corruption in auctioning of sluice gates and the government should order enquiry,” said Leader of the Opposition, Manohar Parrikar on the floor of the House during “Question Hour” on Friday demanding mamlatdars should not be allowed to interfere in auctioning of the sluice gates.
However, Revenue Minister Jose Filipe D’Souza replied, mamlatdar remain present in the capacity of supervisor during auctioning while auction is being conducted by the tenants association.
To which, Parrikar suggested that in such cases mamlatdar from outside should be posted so that there is no scope for manipulation as tenants associations are literally harassed by mamlatdars.
The tenants association has to obtain approval from the mamlatdar if it wants to withdraw money above Rs 5000, and mamlatdar in return demands 10 per cent commission, stated Parrikar.
Some more MLAs also pointed out that tenants associations are being harassed and mamlatdars should not be allowed to interfere in any way. The Speaker Pratapsing Rane too said, tenants association should be left free and mamlatdars should have no role to play. The Revenue Minister eventually agreed to look into alleged irregularities by mamlatdars and consider the demands made by the members.
