According to police, the accident was reported at around 6 pm at Verna Industrial Estate, however it is not yet ascertained how the accident occurred or who was driving the car that went off the road and fell into a ravine.

Those who died in the accident are 14-year-old Rowan Xavier Sequeira from Sanguem, 15-year-old Ethan Ivan Fernandes from Hangamol, Curchorem and 15-year-old Joshua William Barreto, also from Curchorem.

Police succeeded in removing the trio from the vehicle, who later were rushed to Hospicio, Margao. However, all three were declared dead on arrival, disclosed PSI Ashok Bhavkar, who is investigating the case.

“Unfortunately the accident occurred at an isolated spot and nobody witnessed it. Since none of the three car occupants survived, there is nobody who can tell us exactly what happened,” said PI S P Ekoskar of Maina Curtorim Police Station.

However, police feel that the driver may have been travelling at a very high speed for the car to jump off the road and fall into the ravine.

As mark of respect, the managements of Guardian Angel High School, Curchorem and New Educational Institute, Curchorem have declared on Monday as holiday.

It may be recalled that a 20-year-old resident of Taleigao died in a car-truck collision reported along the Verna by-pass last month.
