A special poetry gathering titled ‘Kavya Bharati’ was organised at Sanquelim Fort on the eve of Independence Day, bringing together poets, literature lovers and members of the community in a celebration of poetry, culture and history.
The event was jointly organised by the Vivekananda Prerana Social and Educational Institution, Sanquelim, and the Directorate of Archaeology, Goa, under the guidance of institution president Paurnima Kerkar.

Director of the Directorate of Archaeology, Phaldessai, attended as the chief guest, while local councillor Anand Kanekar was also present.
Poets from both older and younger generations participated enthusiastically, presenting poems on themes including patriotism, culture, tradition and social consciousness. The recitations highlighted the role of poetry in conveying social and cultural messages across generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Phaldessai stressed that while embracing modern science and technology is essential for the future, equal importance must be given to preserving Goa’s traditions, culture and arts. He said poetry remains an important part of the traditional cultural heritage and urged the younger generation to nurture and carry the art form forward.
Held against the backdrop of the historic Sanquelim Fort, the gathering created a unique confluence of literature, culture and history, adding a meaningful cultural dimension to the Independence Day celebrations.
