The Directorate of Transport earned a whopping Rs 3.32 crore on Monday and Tuesday through various taxes.
“The total road tax revenue collected from vehicles on October 10 and 11 is Rs 3.32 crore from 1581 vehicles with Mapusa being the highest in terms of road tax revenue,” an official from the Directorate of Transport told Herald.
As per the Directorate’s records, of the 1581 new vehicles registered in the State in two day, 358 are four-wheelers, 1146 are two-wheelers, 35 are motorcycles for hire, 18 are goods vehicles, 21 are taxis, one is an auto rickshaw and two are tractors.
“There is a slight increase as compared to last year,” said Transport Asst Director (North) B A Sawant said.
Speaking to Herald, officials revealed that the highest revenue in Goa had come from Mapusa that recorded an all time high in road tax revenue of Rs 83.29 lakh, followed by Margao with 64.85 lakh and Panjim with 38.05 lakh.
Bicholim recorded revenue of Rs 25.23 lakh, Pernem 26.31lakh, Ponda 36.28 lakh, Vasco 26.11 lakh, Quepem 20.97, Canacona 8.51 lakh and Dharbandora 2.54 lakh.
“Every year, we keep the office open on Dussehra to ensure that new vehicles are delivered on time. This year the revenue has considerably gone up as vehicle registrations have increased,” an RTO official said.
Auto dealers said they had seen an increase in sales, stating that Dussehra helped them achieve excellent sales in Panjim. “Most of the registrations took place on October 11 and we have made high sales as compared to last year,” said an automobile sales manager.
