The households had lost their land when the military took over land in Ravanfond. The families were to be rehabilitated on a private land in Firgulem back then, but the successive governments failed to acquire the land for the same.
The families have thanked Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Avertano Furtado and the Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’souza for following up the matter with the ministry of defence and also the Centre to get a rightful land elsewhere by means of acquisition.
Avertano thanked Parrikar for having backed him up for restoring the rights of the lands to the families, but criticised former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro and former PWD minister Churchill Alemao for failing to protect the rights of the people.
The then government requisitioned land and allotted plots to certain persons who were displaced due to acquisition of land for establishing 2 STC (3 Military Training Regiment) at Salcete.
“These displaced persons although were allotted plots did not have any ownership rights over the said plots and therefore the Goa Government has vide the enactment of Goa (Allotment of Plots to certain Displaced Persons) Act 2016 has decided to vest these proprietary rights of the said plots unto the said displaced persons,” Avertano said.
