VASCO: Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida along with PWD officials inspected the Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at INS Gomantak Vasco on Wednesday.
Though the MBR was constructed a year ago, it could not be made operational as the water pipeline is not connected to it. This 5000 cubic litres MBR is expected to address the water problems faced by residents of Vasco city.
While the water pipes from Verna MBR to the KTC bus stand at Vasco and from KTC bus stand are already laid, two major valves are yet to be fitted to the pipeline.
Besides the fitting of the two valves, the PWD has hit a roadblock as one resident of Vollant-Vasco is unwilling to part with his piece of land, which is needed to lay another pipeline to connect the pipe at INS Gomantak.
Speaking to Herald, Almeida said the valves will be fitted shortly but raised concern over the reluctance of the landowner to allow the pipe to pass through his property.
Almeida directed the PWD officials present at the inspection to persuade the owner to allow them to lay the pipe, failing which Almeida has asked the PWD officials to move a file for acquisition of the land on a fast-track basis.
“The MBR will be commissioned by February end or early March. Once the MBR at INS Gomantak is commissioned, the water problem faced by residents of Vasco will be solved,” said Almeida.
Those PWD officials present at the inspection site included Superintendent Engineer Srikant Dhond, Executive Engineer Praveen Faterpekar and Mormugao Assistant Engineer Vijay Bhende.
