MARGAO: A whole lot of MLAs supporting the ruling Parrikar dispensation descended at Telaulim-Navelim for the football finals, raising many an eyebrow amongst ardent soccer lovers witnessing the finals on Sunday.
Be it Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, besides Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, they were the cynosure of all eyes as they descended at Telaulim village for the football finals this evening.
The Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado was quick to deny that the presence of a whole lot of ruling party MLAs at Telaulim-Navelim had anything to do politics.
“We were being invited for the football finals and that’s it. There’s nothing politics behind our presence”, he clarified.
Sources in the know, however, told Herald that the group of MLAs, except Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva, had gone on an overnight trip to Canacona. And while returning back, they all made their presence at the football finals.
Sources said though there’s nothing new as far as these MLAs going on weekend stays with their families, it is learnt that that BJP’s decision to anoint Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate did figure during the informal discussions amongst the MLAs.
Incidentally, politicos descending on the soccer field as guests for the finals is not something new in Salcete. A fortnight ago, Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco had invited PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo for the finals at Betalbatim.
