PANJIM: The sudden surge in COVID-19 cases has compelled the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim to suspend all the routine Outpatient Departments (OPDs) from Monday till May 30, with only lifesaving surgeries to be performed on needy patients during the period.

Director Administration at GMC Dattaram Sardessai said as prevention for spread of COVID19 outbreak, all the routine OPDs are suspended other than the OPDs of Orthopaedic, Neurosurgery, Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology and Oncology from May 10 to 30.
“Only lifesaving/limb saving surgeries will be conducted on the needy patients,” Sardessai said in a circular.
Sardessai has directed the heads of the departments (HoDs) to ensure that all the departmental staff are deputed for COVID care and also make sure that all the facilities and resources are mobilised towards COVID care.
“However emergency services will be available for the needy patients, he said.
Directing stricter compliance of the circular, Sardessai said, “All HoDs are hereby instructed to see that emergency treatment to patients is carried out without hindrance”.
