PANJIM: With Goa reeling under severe oxygen shortage to treat COVID-19 patients, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has apparently agreed to supply oxygen to Sindhudurg district to fight the pandemic.

In an interview to a local channel in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra MLA Deepak Kesarkar said Goa Chief Minister has agreed to supply oxygen from Verna to Sindhudurg as the supply from Kolhapur and Raigad has become difficult.
Kesarkar said Sindhudurg has necessary supply of oxygen, but if there is emergency situation, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has agreed to provide it from the plant at Verna.
He said the district hospitals have to keep the resources ready.
Kesarkar said he had personally spoken to Sawant who has assured the supplies. He said that the CM has also instructed the officials about it.
The MLA said, “Such an action is welcome as we have to fight COVID unitedly.”
The State is currently facing severe shortage of oxygen, though; the authorities are not ready to admit it. Several private firms, individuals and concerned citizens have extended support and volunteering in making oxygen cylinders available to COVID-19 patients.
The health authorities have claimed that so far, there are no deaths in Goa due to non-availability of oxygen.
To overcome the existing oxygen shortage, Goa health authorities have proposed to install more than 10 new oxygen generating plants to augment the current supply.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has slammed government for such a move. Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has questioned the government as to how could the Chief Minister provide oxygen to Sindhudurg when Goa is facing a shortage.
