Poinguinim BJP MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has said that he would stake his claim for the party ticket to contest the next Assembly polls from the new constituency of Canacona.
“I have done work in the constituency during my term as MLA. I will definitely stake my claim for the party ticket in the new constituency of Canacona”, Tawadkar said during an informal chat with newsmen here on Thursday evening.
The Poinguinim MLA said he has a vision for Canacona taluka, promising to take up educational and tourism projects with central assistance. “I have started a residential school in my constituency. I now intend to set up the much-required infrastructure at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore. This will give a big boost for education”, he added.
The Poinguinim MLA further said that he would soon come out with a vision document on promotion of tourism in Canacona taluka. “The document will lay stress on eco-tourism, agriculture tourism, besides cultural tourism. This will give the rural unemployed gainful employment”, he said.
Explaining agricultural tourism, he said that introducing organic farming with central funds can not only provide employment to the youth but can promote tourism. On eco-tourism, the MLA said he has a vision to develop the hilly areas of Cotigao and Gaodongori, which will take care of the employment needs of the local youth.
Replying to a question, he said necessary funds for the education and tourism projects can be obtained from the Centre under the Tribal plan.
“Under the Tribal plan, crores of rupees are earmarked for the development of rural areas. I will move a proposal to the state government to avail of the central funds”, he added.
