MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai has demanded immediate action, including clearance of all huts erected near the district hospital under construction.
When Sardessai and local residents visited the site following the death of a five- month-old child inside one of the huts, they found to their surprise that the huts were all occupied even when the manpower is not working at the hospital construction site. “These huts were erected for the manpower working at the construction site. But work on the hospital project is abandoned by the government, but the huts continue to be occupied by migrants. We would like to know who are staying in these huts which were erected to house the workforce working on the hospital project,” he said, making it clear that the people of Fatorda will not allow the huts to be used to house labourers working on construction site at some other place.
He said the temporary hutments cannot be a heaven for migrants, fearing that their presence will result in a social problem.
