PANJIM: A commercial establishment and a fish and chicken vendor were fined Rs 5000 each by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP)for using plastic carry bags.
CCP on Tuesday began its drive to penalize those selling or using plastic carry bags within the capital city jurisdiction. Drive is been conducted under Market committee chairman Uday Madkaikar.
Rupees 5000 is fine for the first offence, while repeat offenders will be penalized Rs 10,000 per offence.
Speaking to HERALD, City Mayor Vithal Chopdekar said that on the first day, three people were fined Rs 5000 each for making use of plastic carry bags. “A ice corner owner, a fish vendor and chicken shop operator are been fined,” he said.
Chopdekar said that 10 kg of plastic carry bags are also been confiscated during the drive.
