MARGAO: Wilfred Barreto and Annie Pereira have been elected unopposed as the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of the Verna village panchayat respectively.

A special meeting was held on Tuesday where six out the nine members of the panchayat were present while the three remaining members were absent.
Former Sarpanch and present panch Tony D’Costa, criticised the previous Sarpanch’s handling of the panchayat activities and gave examples of unresolved garbage management and some other irregularities. He added that the ruling group of panchas is united. The new Sarpanch Wilfred promised to take up pre-monsoon works on a priority and to carry out pre-mixing of some village internal roads. He too spoke on the garbage problem and said the panchayat would address these issues too.
