PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the Vigilance Department inquiry into rotting of 241 metric tonnes of tur dal, during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, has implicated five to six officials of Civil Supplies Department.

Speaking to mediapersons, Sawant said directions have been issued to the Vigilance Department to initiate stern action against all those, whose negligence resulted into wastage of food item.
He said that apart from tur dal, the government has also come across wastage of sugar in various godowns and here too action will be taken.
Last month, former civil supplies director Siddhivinayak Naik was suspended based on a preliminary inquiry. Sources informed that one Civil Supplies Inspector Lower Divisional Clerk, Godown Supervisor are amongst those, who have been held accountable, in the Vigilance inquiry.
Former civil supplies minister Govind Gaude had admitted that bureaucratic negligence resulted in the rotting of tur dal across various godowns.
