Concerned over the indiscriminate change of zones to settlement area, villagers of Davorlim on Sunday strongly resolved to retain the agricultural, orchard and Communidade land to its present state.
At the gram Sabha meeting, anxious villagers demanded and resolved that the agricultural and orchard land which has been shown as settlement in the Regional Plan be withdraw immediately. They sought to know how large tracts of land were shown as settlement in the draft plan and demanded that the land be riverted back to the original zone
Tightening the screws on the builders, the villagers recommended to the Panchayat body not to issue any Occupancy Certificate for multi-storey housing complexes unless the builders agrees to set up sewage treatment plants and garbage treatment plants within the premises.
In yet another resolution, the agitated villagers called upon the authorities to take up desilting of all rivulets passing through the village.
They further demanded that the authorities preserve and protect the natural springs, which have come under severe threat from large scale housing activities.
The Sarpanch of Davorlim-Dicarpale panchayat Sandeep Verlekar told Herald that the resolution to preserve and protect the Communidade land was taken at the gram Sabha meet.
He further pointed out that the proposal to develop the lake located at Dicarpale was approved along with the proposal to desilt various rivulets leading to River Sal.
