PANJIM: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited has introduced additional shuttle service on the major route connecting Panjim and Margao in a bid to save time of passengers travelling on this overcrowded route.
A Kadamba official said that eight KTC buses were recently introduced on the Panjim-Margao-Panjim route, adding to an existing fleet of 28 shuttle and 28 local buses plying on this usually overcrowded road stretch.
“Thousands of passengers use this route on a daily basis. They prefer the shuttle service to save time. But off late, we received several complaints that people, particularly students, waste their time waiting for direct buses. This prompted us to introduce additional bus service since students are appearing for their final exams,” the KTC officer told Herald.
The scheme would also help the office goers. With 6am-9am and 5pm-7pm being peak hours, majority of commuters feel the pinch of the shortage of buses during this time.
“Not all students or working class possess passes, and are forced to stand in the queue to obtain the travelling ticket. This consumes time when there is a crowd. Hopefully, the additional buses will reduce the problem,” he said.
The officer informed that respective depot managers have also been instructed to manage the situation during emergency. It is also learnt that KTC will soon purchase 20 additional buses under the JNNURM and will ply these on different routes.
