VASCO: A 28-year-old youth from Tripura died in a tragic accident at berth No-6 of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) on Thursday morning. According to the police, the incident occurred at around 4 am inside MPT when the driver of a forklift while taking his vehicle in reverse failed to notice the youth standing behind and crushed his leg.
“As per our investigation the youth Ashish Mitra, a driver, was standing behind the ill-fated forklift which was engaged in loading steel materials onto a trailer at berth No-6 of MPT. Thus, the forklift operator while taking reverse first dashed Mitra and later the forklift went over him,” PI Shailesh Narvekar told
The victim was immediately taken to GMC Bambolim, but he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
“We have registered an offence against the operator of the forklift namely Sunil Prasad (28), a native of Bihar, under Section 279, 304 (A) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and have placed him under arrest. Further investigation is in progress,” PI Shailesh Narvekar added.
