PONDA: Ponda police appear clueless with regards to the two gruesome murder cases, which were reported in an isolated approach road, metres away from the KTC bus stand.
The death of the two victims has been shrouded in mystery as the police have not only failed to detect the cases but are yet to identify the women murdered by the unknown accused.
It may be recalled that on August 6, 2018, a decomposed body of an unidentified woman aged between 30 and 35 years was found in a trench covered with leaves. The police suspected that the woman was strangulated to death and her face was completely defaced.
Police found a stone near the body and suspected that the accused may have been used it to deface the woman’s face after committing the murder so that her identity could not be revealed. DySP Mahesh Gaonkar, PI Harish Marcaikar and police team had conducted the panchanama. Police said before the murder there must be scuffle between victim and accused. Police pressed the dog squad into service, but failed to get any lead in the case. The police could not identify the woman, but suspect that the woman may be native of Karnataka as dowl or mangalsutra was found on her body. PI Harish Marcaikar said efforts are on to identify the woman and to nab the accused. So far police have questioned several labourers residing near the KTC bus stand and Shapur area. A police team was sent to Karnataka to establish the identity of the victim. He said investigations are still on. Earlier, on May 1, 2012 at the same spot a woman aged between 30 to 35 years was found murdered. However, this case too has remained unsolved as the woman’s identity is not yet known. The Bandora, Shapur locals and near KTC bus stand have demanded streetlights near the bus stand as they claim that the said area remains in darkness at night and suspect that the same person to be involved in both the murders.
Locals have demanded police patrolling in the area as Farmagudi college students use the road to walk towards KTC bus stand.
