MARGAO: The current winner of Kingfisher Voice of Goa (Konkani) Verphina Dias has alleged that she was assaulted at Benaulim on Tuesday when she had gone to perform at the Carnival festivities.
Colva PI Uttam Raut Desai told the media that the police has registered a case of assault against one Mathew Fernandes in connection with the incident.
Incidentally, Verphina claimed that Benaullim MLA Caitu Silva and RDA Minister, Mickky Pacheco had come to the Colva police station to get her to withdraw her complaint lodged with the police.
Narrating the incident, Verphina said she had gone to Benaulim to perform at the Carnival festivities on Tuesday evening. ‘I was waiting for my friend when someone from the crowd tried to put colour on me. I pleaded with him to spare me since I had to perform at the show, but in vain. Despite resistance, the man tried to forcibly put the colour, when I slapped him. Then this man by name Mathew Fernandes came on the scene and allegedly pulled me by my hair and assaulted me. There were people all round, but no one came to my rescue. It was only later that a woman came to my rescue and alerted the traffic cop, but there was no intervention from the cops either,” she claimed.
Colva PI Uttam Raut Desai said the police are investigating the case and are on the look out of the accused person.
