SANGUEM: Santano Rodrigues and Constancio Mascarenhas from Sanguem, who first complaint of the three illegal constructions on the government land at Cotarli Village in Sanguem Taluka, finally heaved a sigh of relief after the three illegal structures were demolished by the authorities, on Monday.
‘Herald’ has been following the issue since last two years with the last follow up being done on September 7, wherein the complainants had dashed a letter to the Chief Secretary complaining of the illegal constructions on the government land and the failure of the authorities to demolish the structures despite the proven fact that the land exclusively belongs to the government.

The authorities led by Mamlatdar of Sanguem Manoj Korgaonkar and accompanied by officials from PWD and Electricity Department on Monday undertook the demolition drive with the help of heavy machinery in the presence of police personnel.
All the three structures were completely razed down following order by the Deputy Collector Sanguem to demolish the structures after the persons involved in the illegal constructions failed to produce any documents to substantiate their claim over the right to the land.
During the course of demolition drive, it was found that the two of the three illegal constructions, were using electricity with the help of solar panels and even had television sets.
Mamlatdar Korgaonkar informed that the land wherein the illegal constructions had come up is owned by the government and the same was to be utilised for IIT project which was however objected by the locals in Sanguem and later shifted to Sattari.
Meanwhile, it is reportedly learnt that the persons involved in the illegal constructions have claimed the land to be allocated to them by some individual on payment of Rs 500 per square metre.
