BICHOLIM: This year’s scarce rainfall could lead to a water problem in the summer of 2016 as the Anjunem and Amthanem dams in Bicholim taluka have not filled to the required water mark.
Sources said this is the first time this is happening since 1987 when the water level in the dams had not reached the 93.2 mts level. Presently, the level at Anjunem dam is about 91 mts, which is 2 mts less from the required level.
“We have taken all precautions to look into the matter and feel there will be no scarcity of water to the people,” dam engineer G H Pawadi said.
The water level at Amthanem dam is lower than last year’s. Even as engineers state they would manage the situation, the dam authorities did not open the gates, which is usual practice every year.“It is likely that people from North Goa might suffer a water crisis as there was less rainfall and even in the dams there is less amount of water compared to last year,” a resident from Sanquelim said.
