PANJIM: Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has suspended the operation licence of the truck ferrying iron ore, for its involvement in the accident that led to the death of two women and at Tilamol on Wednesday. The truck driver has been suspended form transporting mineral ore for three years.
“I hereby suspend the registration of vehicle No GA-09-U-4546 for the rest of the season and also suspend employment of you Jana Yamkar as driver for the purpose of mineral transportation for three years unless you are exonerated from criminal trial for such rash and negligent driving by the magistrate, whichever is earlier,” the order issued by Mines director Prasanna Acharya states. “Because of your alleged rash and negligent driving, two innocent civilians have lost their lives…,” the order states.
The action has been initiated under the Goa (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Storage and Transportation of Minerals) Rules 2013. Two women – Dipika Dessai and her mother-in-law Nayan Dessai – died on the spot after the speeding truck knocked down their scooter.
Acharya said that vehicles registered with DMG for iron ore transportation purposes are to be driven without causing hindrance to other vehicles and commuters using the roads.
